After months of planning from USSA, ACGL, universities and students alike the USSA Esports Finals was held on the 1st and 2nd of October. The weekend saw over a hundred and fifty students from nine different universities around the country compete in earnest for different titles.

This weekend sees the University Sports South Africa (USSA) Finals taking place in Cape Town. And you're all invited!
After a year of competing online, the students from a variety of South African universities will head to the University of Cape Town on the 1st and 2nd of October to compete in Rocket League, FIFA22 and Clash Royale.
Varsity Rocket League has seen an intense rivalry between UCT and Stellenbosch in 2022, with the two going head-to-head in the ACGL UNI Winter Split. Historically, Stellenbosch has been the strongest team in tournaments this year, but it will be the first time Wits and a few other universities take them on in an event environment.

As Winter slowly moves on in South Africa, the ACGL UNI Third Term Split has come to an end. It was an eventful season that saw new universities and students rise to the challenge. WeThinkCode_CT joined the fray and compete against the established universities. The three main titles played during the split were FIFA22, Rocket League and Clash Royale.
The Rocket League finals was a grudge match between Stellenbosch University and the University of Cape Town. Notoriously, these two teams have clashed in the finals throughout the year. UCT was looking much stronger after their recent performance at the Student Showdown. History had favoured Stellies, but this time UCT came out the gates and won the first two games in the best of seven series. Stellenbosch did not wither away however, and turned it around for an exciting reverse sweep.

The second year of the online ACGL UNI has begun with intense competition as institutions vie for spots and seeding in the USSA Finals at the end of the year. This Split saw the introduction of Rocket League and the continuation of FIFA and Clash Royale.
Each tournament attributes points to each university based on how their players placed in the final tournament.

Today we are thrilled to lift the lid on one of a number of projects we have been working on to assist in building a local esports ecosystem.
Our ACGL Uni platform is now live and offers South African Universities a space to operate tournaments, as well as compete in inter-varsity activities thanks to a partnership with University Sport South Africa (USSA).
ACGL Verified universities will be able to host internal tournaments for a wide variety of titles with an Elo ranking system for players. Both ACGL and USSA will host a number of inter-varsity challenges.
